Process

Apostille process for Vietnam

  1. 1

    State authentication

The issuing state's Home/GAD department, Education department or a Chamber of Commerce authenticates the document.

  2. 2

    MEA apostille

The Ministry of External Affairs affixes the apostille. No embassy stamp is needed.

  3. 3

    Translation (if required)

Vietnamese authorities usually need a Vietnamese translation, often certified or notarised in Vietnam.

Good to know

  • Because the apostille is new for Vietnam, a few offices may still ask for consular legalisation for a while. Check with the receiving office before you start.
  • Degree certificates and experience letters for work permits are among the most common documents for Vietnam.
  • Commercial documents for company registration or investment licences may also need a certified Vietnamese translation.

Frequently asked questions

Does Vietnam accept the apostille now?

Yes. The Apostille Convention entered into force for Vietnam on 11 September 2026, and India did not object to Vietnam's accession, so the MEA apostille applies.

Do I still need Vietnam Embassy attestation?

Normally no. The apostille replaces embassy attestation. If a Vietnamese office still asks for the old route, we can help with that instead.
