MEA Apostille Services in India

We prepare and process your personal, educational and commercial documents for apostille, the internationally recognised certificate for Hague Convention countries.

Overview

About mea apostille

An apostille is a certificate issued under the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. It confirms that the signature and seal on a public document are genuine, so the document is accepted in other member countries without further embassy legalisation.

In India, the apostille is issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). Before that, the document must be authenticated by the right authority: the State Home Department or General Administration Department for personal documents, the State Education Department or the university for educational documents, and a Chamber of Commerce for commercial documents.

We find the correct route for your document and destination, coordinate every stage, and keep you updated until the apostilled document is back in your hands.

Who needs it

  • Students applying to universities in Hague Convention countries
  • Professionals moving abroad for work or a visa
  • Families registering births, marriages or residency overseas
  • Companies registering branches, tenders or contracts abroad

Process

How it works, step by step

  1. 1

    Document check

We check that the document is genuine, current and eligible for apostille, and note anything missing.

  2. 2

    Notary (if required)

Some documents, such as affidavits and copies of commercial documents, are notarised first.

  3. 3

    State authentication

The issuing state authenticates the document through its Home/GAD department, Education department or Chamber of Commerce.

  4. 4

    MEA apostille

The Ministry of External Affairs affixes the apostille, which is verifiable online.

  5. 5

    Return delivery

The apostilled document is couriered or hand-delivered back to you.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between apostille and embassy attestation?

An apostille is used for countries that are members of the Hague Apostille Convention, and once it is issued no embassy stamp is needed. Countries outside the Convention require embassy (consular) attestation after MEA attestation instead.

Is the Indian apostille accepted in every Hague Convention country?

Almost all. A member country can object when a new country joins, and the Convention then doesn't apply between the two. Germany objected to India's accession, so Indian documents for Germany go through the German mission instead of the apostille. We check this for every destination.

Who issues the apostille in India?

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India, after the document has been authenticated by the competent state authority or Chamber of Commerce. We are an independent service provider that handles this process for you.

How long does apostille take?

It depends on the state and the document type; we give you an estimate after the document check. State authentication is usually the stage that takes longest.

Can an apostille be done on a photocopy?

Apostille is affixed to original public documents. For some commercial and notarised documents, a notarised copy may be accepted. We confirm what applies to your document.
